Jewels of the southern hemisphere: Traits and growth strategy of South African Oxalis species
What is your field of expertise?
I am a plant functional ecologist studying herbaceous perennial plants, especially the role of belowground storage organs (rhizomes, bulbs, tubers, roots) and their carbohydrate (starch and sugars) and water storage in plant life, especially in response to different stresses such as freezing temperatures or drought.
Why did you decide to join the Open Science project?
I co-supervised a project with Open Science a couple years ago and it was a great experience.
How was your journey to science and to work for CAS?
I have a background in art but went back to university in science. I am an American citizen but have studied/worked in multiple countries. I am very excited to work in the Czech Republic in CAS because of the excellent work in plant ecology, especially the work on belowground storage organs in my current department led by Dr. Jitka Klimešová.
